The Enterprise-D's Bridge: A History of Changes and Upgrades

From The Original Series to The Motion Picture

The bridge of the USS Enterprise has undergone many changes and upgrades over the years, reflecting the ever-evolving technology of Star Trek. The original bridge, as seen in The Original Series, was a relatively simple affair, with a large viewscreen and a few control panels.

For The Motion Picture, the bridge was redesigned to be more spacious and futuristic. The viewscreen was now wraparound, and there were more control panels and workstations. This design would be used for the rest of the original series films.

The Next Generation

The bridge of the USS Enterprise-D, as seen in Star Trek: The Next Generation, was a major departure from previous designs. It was much larger and more spacious, with a horseshoe-shaped command center in the center of the room. The viewscreen was now a holographic display, and there were dozens of control panels and workstations.

The Enterprise-D's bridge was also the first to feature a separate engineering section, which was located behind the command center. This allowed the engineers to work on the ship's systems without interrupting the bridge crew.
