Zverev Back in Top Five after Cincinnati Run

German Breaks into Elite Group

Update: August 11th, 2023 at 16:19 GMT

Alexander Zverev has returned to the ATP's top five after reaching the semi-finals of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Cincinnati. The German defeated Frances Tiafoe, Cristian Garin, and Daniil Medvedev in straight sets before falling to Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets. Zverev's run in Cincinnati marked a significant improvement in form for the 25-year-old. He had struggled with injuries and poor results in the months leading up to the event. However, he showed signs of rediscovering his best tennis in Cincinnati, particularly with his serve and forehand. With his semi-final finish, Zverev has moved up to number five in the ATP rankings, his highest ranking since October 2022. The jump in ranking puts Zverev back in contention for the year-end ATP Finals, which will be held in Turin, Italy, in November.

Zverev is one of the most talented players on the ATP Tour and has been tipped as a future Grand Slam champion.

He has won 19 ATP titles, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in 2020 and 2022.
