BVB Extends Unbeaten Run, Climbs to Bundesliga Summit

Match Summary

Borussia Dortmund (BVB) put on a dominant display against Hertha BSC in their Bundesliga matchday 21 clash on Saturday, cruising to a 4-1 victory at the Signal Iduna Park. The win keeps BVB undefeated in 2023 and moves them level on points with league leaders Bayern Munich and Union Berlin.

Donyell Malen opened the scoring for Dortmund in the 32nd minute, before Marco Reus doubled the lead just before halftime. Julian Brandt put the game out of reach for Hertha BSC in the 89th minute, after Hertha's Jessic Ngankam pulled one back in the 68th minute. Substitute Jamie Bynoe-Gittens added a fourth for Dortmund in stoppage time.

Impressive Performance from BVB

BVB were in control of the match from start to finish, with Hertha BSC unable to cope with their attacking prowess. Dortmund had 62% possession and created numerous scoring opportunities throughout the match. Their defense was equally solid, limiting Hertha to just four shots on target.

Jude Bellingham and Emre Can were particularly impressive in midfield, dominating possession and providing creativity for the attacking players. Malen, Reus, and Brandt were all clinical in front of goal, taking their chances with aplomb.

Hertha BSC Struggles Continue

For Hertha BSC, the defeat was their sixth in the last seven league matches, leaving them in 17th place in the Bundesliga table. They have scored just 18 goals all season, the second-lowest tally in the league, and their defense has been equally poor, conceding 40 goals.

Hertha will need to improve significantly in the second half of the season if they want to avoid relegation to the 2. Bundesliga.
