Press Release: Jue 25042024
LaLiga and StarTimes have announced a non-exclusive broadcast deal that will see the Chinese company broadcast LaLiga matches in sub-Saharan Africa from the 2024-25 season onwards.
The deal, which is for four years, will see StarTimes broadcast all 380 LaLiga matches live each season, as well as highlights and other programming related to the league.
The announcement was made at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday, and was attended by LaLiga President Javier Tebas and StarTimes CEO Pang Xinxing.
Tebas said that the deal was a "significant step" for LaLiga in its bid to reach a global audience.
"StarTimes is one of the leading media companies in Africa, and this deal will give LaLiga a huge reach on the continent," he said.
Pang said that the deal was a "great opportunity" for StarTimes to provide its customers with "the best football content in the world."
"LaLiga is one of the most popular leagues in the world, and we are excited to be able to offer it to our customers," he said.
The 2024-25 LaLiga season will start on August 16 and finish on May 25. The full schedule will be announced in due course.
The deal between LaLiga and StarTimes is the latest in a series of broadcast deals that the league has signed in recent years. In 2021, LaLiga signed a deal with ESPN to broadcast the league in the United States, and in 2022, the league signed a deal with DAZN to broadcast the league in Canada.
LaLiga is one of the most popular football leagues in the world, with teams such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid. The league has a global audience of over 2.8 billion people.
StarTimes is a leading media company in Africa, with operations in over 30 countries. The company offers a range of services, including pay-TV, mobile TV, and OTT services.
