ICC Confirms UAE as New Venue for Women's T20 World Cup 2024
Venue Shift Due to Civil Unrest in Bangladesh
UAE to Host Tournament from October 3 to 19, 2024
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the new venue for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament was originally scheduled to be held in Bangladesh, but was moved due to civil unrest in the country.
The decision to move the tournament was made following consultation with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the ICC Women's Committee. The ICC stated that the decision was made in the best interests of the players, fans, and the event itself.
The Women's T20 World Cup will be held in the UAE from October 3 to 19, 2024. The tournament will feature 10 teams, including the hosts, and will be played across three venues in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.
The ICC has expressed its confidence in the UAE's ability to host a successful tournament. The UAE has a proven track record of hosting major cricket events, including the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2021 and the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2020 and 2021.
The BCB has expressed its disappointment at the decision to move the tournament, but has pledged to support the ICC in ensuring a successful event. The BCB has also confirmed that it will continue to work with the ICC to bring an ICC global event to Bangladesh in the near future.
