Aurora May be Visible from Scotland and England This Weekend
Met Office Forecast Hints at Clear Skies and Strong Solar Activity
Northern Scotland Favored, but Sightings Possible Across the UK
The Met Office has predicted that the aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights, could be visible in Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland on Saturday evening.
The celestial display is caused by charged particles from the sun interacting with the Earth's atmosphere. The optimum conditions for viewing the aurora occur when the sky is clear and there is little light pollution.
Northern Scotland is favored to see the aurora overhead, with the best chances of sightings in the Highlands and Islands. However, those in northern England and even parts of northern Ireland may be able to catch a glimpse of the spectacle near the horizon.
