Early Life and Career

WEB Whitley David Merrifield was born on January 24, 1989, in Greenville, South Carolina. He played college baseball at the University of South Carolina, where he set several school records.

MLB Career

Merrifield was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the ninth round of the 2010 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut in 2016, playing primarily as a second baseman and outfielder.

During his time with the Royals, Merrifield quickly became a valuable and versatile player. He led the American League in stolen bases in 2017 and 2018, and was named an All-Star in 2019.

In 2022, Merrifield was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays, where he continued to play a key role as a starter.
